It’s been a big year in the food industry, and the food truck scene in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has absolutely exploded! With over 68 universities and colleges in Pittsburgh, it’s no surprise that the city is known for its youth culture, full of young hungry bellies.

1. Burgh Bites
Burgh Bites is owned by Chef Ricci Minella. Ricci’s inspiration comes from his early training at an Italian restaurant. Laying out his full foodie dreams, he opened his first Burgh Bites cart in the Summer of 2011 and has since expanded to a bigger and better truck!
At Burgh Bites, you can experience delicious sandwiches, hot dogs, potato tots, and torts!

2. BRGR
BRGR is one of the most popular food trucks in Pittsburgh, featuring the very best gourmet burgers and specialty milkshakes. To make things even sweeter, BRGR earned a spot on Pittsburgh’s “Best Restaurant” list in 2014.
There are a few burgers I recommend trying such as “The Fire in The Hole” which consists of guacamole, pepper-jack cheese, jalapeno chipotle mayo, and Sriracha. Also, don’t pass up the daily burger special – you’ll find something that blows your burger mind each day!

3. Franktuary
If the idea of frankfurters and poutine has you drooling, then you can’t pass up a visit to the Frankturary food truck. Known for their incredibly hot dogs, poutine, and classic fries, they’re a definitely a classic.
Frankturary is also known for their grass-fed and vegan franks – although as a devoted meat eater, I’d have to recommend the all-beef Frankfurt. For the freshest dogs around, make sure to catch them at one of their stops.

4. Gyros N’ At
If you’re craving a Mediterranean meal and you’re on the move, you can find the perfect meal at Gyros N’At.
Devour one of the best gyros in the city as you watch them slice strips of beef off the spit before your eyes and drooling mouth. This gyros are loaded and topped with garlic tzatziki sauce, lettuce, and onions.

5. Mac & Gold Truck

Mac & Gold serves macaroni with a twist, including dishes like vegetable chili macaroni, barbecue macaroni, or bacon, jalapeno & mushroom macaroni! This comfort food favorite just got a lot more daring.

6. Miss Meatballs
Miss Meatballs is a food cart specializing in an Italian classic, but with some serious upgrades. Miss Meatballs offers everything from your grandma’s traditional meatball to unique flavors like chicken asiago meatballs, Sriracha chicken teriyaki meatballs, and the hilariously named buffalo bleu balls, with blue cheese!
Owner Sara Lechman trained at a Michelin Star and Zagat restaurant in New York City before launching her Miss Meatball cart in Western Pennsylvania! Miss Meatballs is in hibernation December through February, so catch them before they close.
In addition to the beloved meatballs, you can also try various soups, pasta or potatoes.

8. Oh My Grill

13. Leona’s Ice Cream
Since ice cream is America’s favorite dessert, we don’t blame you for drooling over one of these delicious ice cream sandwiches. Leon’s ice cream sandwich is made with low lactose ice cream sandwiched between two homemade cookies.
Leona’s belief is “every belly should enjoy ice cream,” and we totally agree! One fan favorite combo is the vanilla bean ice cream with peanut butter cookies. Their signature chocolate peanut butter is another popular recommendation. While their ice cream flavors change each season, you’ll always have plenty of options.
