It’s been awesome seeing so many successful food truck move to a brick and mortar location. Restaurants like these are testaments to how food trucks serve as a vital strategy for chefs who want to experiment with menus and gauge response before investing in a physical location.
Bon Me won be as a fan immediately after trying one of their first noodle bowls a couple years back. I’ve been looking forward to checking out the Bon Me physical brick and mortar spot in Kendall Square.

Bon Me Boston Noodle Stop
Bon Me runs a special noodle stop on Friday nights (5pm – 10pm) and Saturday days (11am – 10pm), in which their normal menu is tweaked with extra new noodle bowls instead of their traditional offerings (don’t worry, they still have their famous Banh Mi sandwich). Visitors are invited to, as Bon Me puts it, “sit, stop, and slurp.”
Time to noodle up! I ordered the chicken and pork meatball with lotus root, rice cake noodle, and coconut curry broth.

The meatballs were perfectly tender and flavorful – I could have mowed down on those bad boys all day. The lotus root threw me a curve ball – I had no clue how to eat it and it kept slipping through my chopsticks! Eventually we got there (though not without some dignity lost). While the lotus root was very cool looking, it was didn’t have much happening in the flavor department.
The coconut curry was fine, but definitely was much improved with the addition of some sriracha. I was pretty psyched to try my first ever rice cake noodles. While the novelty of these noodles was fun, I’m not sure I’d invite them to my noodle party next time. They weren’t able to soak up any of the sauce, consistently remaining bland for the whole meal.
Overall the noodle bowl was good, but this one didn’t blow me away. I found myself longing for the old school Bon Me noodle bowl I loved so much. But the day was saved thanks to a surprise sweet- the banana bread miso chocolate sundae.
Banana Bread Miso Chocolate Sundae

This baby took me totally by surprise. I consider this dessert emblematic of why food trucks (or in this case, the food truck mindset) rock so much – you’ll try stuff you might never see elsewhere. Everything about this sundae is salivating. I didn’t know miso chocolate sauce was a thing, but now I want to pour it on every consumable food item – it has an almost sour taste that sounds strange, but works in perfect tandem with a soft pile of vanilla ice cream and warm squares of banana bread.
Overall, I definitely recommend checking out Bon Me, especially during their noodle stop sessions. You never know what you’ll come across!
