In the words of Lou Raffetto of the New England Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) –

“We are inviting everyone who loves horses, loves Suffolk Downs, loves food trucks and craft beer and just wants to spend the day or the weekend with us having family fun. We really see it as one big party!”

I’m always up for a party!

Schedule: Gates open at 11am, with the first race scheduled for 12pm. Each weekend will feature steeplechase racing on Saturdays, with stakes races restricted to horses bred in Massachusetts on days.

The featured event of the opening day card on Saturday, July 9 will be the $75,000 Jill Jellison Memorial Stakes. This is a five furlong turf race restricted to fillies and mares, named in honor of Jill Jellison, a pioneer member of the local jockey colony who passed away after a battle with cancer last year.

Will you consider attending the Racing and Food Truck Festival? I’ve never attended a horse race myself, but with the addition of food trucks I might have to give it a go. What do you think?
