SOWA Sundays 2014: What to Expect

SOWA Sundays have become immensely popular due to being a one stop shop for all your summer needs.

There are few ways to better spend a Sunday than meandering along Harrison Ave and enjoying the:

  • Artisan Crafts
  • Vintage Goods
  • Farmer’s Market
  • And (of course) Food Trucks!

Viewing local crafts and wares is a ton of fun and great for gift shopping, and there’s a ton of foodie fun to be had in the farmer’s market too (get there early for Union Square Donuts before they sell out!).

Naturally the food trucks tend to be the highlight of my visits, and there’s always a ton to choose from. SOWA can serve as your very own free food truck festival!

A few tips to make the most of your SOWA experience:

Get There Early

As the day goes on, the lines for the food trucks get longer and longer, especially nearing the lunching hour. The earlier you can eat, the better.

Divide & Conquer

There’s always a ton of food trucks to sample at SOWA sunday, and if you go with some friends, I highly recommend the divide & conquer strategy. Let each member of your cohort visit a different truck, then share the spoils. Otherwise you’ll spend a huge chunk of time struggling just to decide which truck to eat from!

SOWA Parking

Alright, I’ll be honest – sometimes I can be a bit cheap. I guess the polite thing would be to say “frugal.” Therefore, I try to avoid paying for parking if at all possible. My first few visits to SOWA I would spend up to 30 minutes looking for street parking!

Most of the street parking around SOWA is reserved for residents, and the few visitor parking spots are quickly swooped up. Do a quick run around the block, and if you don’t see anything, consider paying the $5 to park in SOWA’s reserved parking lots.

Your best bet for street parking will be to explore one way side streets off of Harrison Ave and it’s parallel, Washington St.. The later you go, the less chance you’ll have of finding a street spot.

Any Birthday’s Coming Up?

It’s worth sitting down and thinking about you have any upcoming events that require gifts. The SOWA craft vendors offer some really unique items that make fantastic, one-of-a-kind gifts you won’t find anyplace else.
