Metzy’s Taqueria is a brand new north shore food truck based out of Newburyport, MA. They specialize in Mexican food with terrific tacos and burritos.
Food truck owner Erik Metzdorf let me come by and visit Metzy’s food truck during their pre-opening trial run in early May. When I visited, they were still ironing out a few kinks in the ordering process, but when it came to the food, not a single thing needed changing – it was instant perfection!
I took it upon myself to try a taco trifecta, ordering the pork taco, fish taco, and the black bean & sweet potato taco from Metzy’s food truck.
These tacos were gorgeous to behold, with a noticeable attention to aesthetics and presentation which reminds us that we are far, far, from Taco Bell. The tacos looked incredible, and believe it or not, they tasted even better.
The pork taco was loaded with meat and toppings. Some taco trucks get stingy with ingredients, but not Metzy’s! Metzy’s pork taco is loaded with flavorful slow-braised pork, caramelized onions, heaps of mango-habanero salsa, and chipotle sour cream.
The fish taco was another home run, with tender cod covered in a delicate fry batter that provided the perfect crunch without overwhelming the fish, complimented with an avocado lime sauce, pico de gallo, and chipotle sour cream.
The black bean & sweet potato taco really took me by surprise, featuring black bean and sweet potato fritters with pico de gallo and chipotle sour cream. Vegetarian taco lovers will go crazy over this one. Now I’m a born and bred carnivore, untrusting of tofu, tempeh, and their ilk. But let me tell you, if all veggo offerings tasted like this, I’d have no problem tossing out the butcher’s block.
While all tacos at Metzy’s are divinely inspired, I’d say the black bean and sweet potato taco is the one you can’t leave without trying.

Metzy’s Newburyport food truck usually sets up shop at the Plum Island Airfield for lunch. As a new truck, their schedule is often changing, so be sure to check Metzy’s out on Facebook and on Twitter (@MetzysTaqueria) to stay updated on times and locations.
Metzy’s is also hoping to station itself in the Newburyport Industrial Park in the future, looking forward to even possibly coordinating some evenings with the Newburyport Brewing Company (located in the Industrial Park). One thing’s for sure, summers in Newburyport are about to get a lot tastier with Metzy’s around.
