Last week Boston held its annual food truck lottery, in which the city assigns its 351 time slots to the 81 food trucks predicted to be hitting the road come spring.
There are 22 locations up for grabs, divided into various time slots for the breakfast, lunch, and dinner shifts.
With more trucks than every before, getting a prime spot is no easy task.
Your best hope for getting a good spot is to be in the 1st tier of the lottery selection – those are the trucks that score the highest in inspections and compliance with city rules. Those with lower rankings get put in the 2nd tier. The new trucks get put in the 3rd tier – they have it the hardest and will definitely miss out on the best spots.
However, there are always other options for those who lady luck fails in the Boston food truck lottery. The popular Rose Kennedy Greenway spaces are awarded separately by the Greenway Conservancy.
Trucks also can consider partnering with private businesses, as bringing in food truck for workers during lunch is becoming increasingly popular.
