Blazing Salads Food Truck: Salads & Pita Power

I was first drawn to “Blazing Salads” due to their glorious pun (who doesn’t love a clever play on words?). While the idea of a salad food truck doesn’t inspire as much excitement as waffle or taco trucks, there’s plenty to try at Blazing Salads.

Salads & More

While the Blazing Salads food truck does offer a selection of salads (no surprise there), there’s plenty more to try and taste even for those who aren’t dedicated leaf eaters, with chicken and steak dishes that look mighty good.

Even their play on salads is unique, with every salad being delivered inside a pita bowl (or, more accurately, half-way in and half-way out of a pita).

I wasn’t expecting such a presentation from a food truck, so it was quite a surprise to open my container and find this display. While visually it’s quite nice, I did find this design a bit confounding – was I supposed to eat it inside the pita like a salad sandwich? Or was I supposed to deconstruct the salad and scoop out the remainder of the salad fixings onto my tray?

I ended up going with the latter option, since it seemed there was much more of the salad outside the pita than in it.

The oiled salad and tabouli were great, although I found the chicken salad to be a bit mayonnaise-y for my personal liking.

Bonuses from Blazing Salads

What I really found most interesting about Blazing Salads was there extra offerings. At Blazing Salads, each and every meal gets you a free water and free pita chips, if you want them.

I found this “help yourself to some free goodies” setup very enticing and I think it’s actually a unique element that will set Blazing Salads apart from the rest.

It’s easy to look at an element like this and brush it off as nothing big – free water and pita chips doesn’t exactly seem like a factor that would drive customers to that specific food truck. However, it really says more than you may think.

Other trucks would definitely consider charging for water and a pita chip side, and the fact that Blazing Salads offers them pro bono shows a certain level of generosity with customers.

This act, while small, still affects customers and endears them to the truck that offered them more for less. It’s small things like this that really have a huge affect on customer loyalty and brand awareness.

Blazing Salads on Social: Better Than Many!

Another thing I thought Blazing Salads did very well was their social media promotion.

On the back of the bag for the free pita chips, there is a small sticker promoting Blazing Salads’ social media accounts. This is a smart move since many customers will be taking advantage of the free pita snacks – and who knows, maybe after eating them they’ll be excited enough about it all to tweet out about the truck!

The only suggestion I’d put forth here is to include the @handle of the truck so that users can easily follow you (especially consider the Twitter handle for Blazing Salads is @blzonsalad – not an exact replication of the truck name).

I look forward to coming back to Blazing Salads to try their other offerings.
